Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A high-speed bike lost control and crashed into a guardrail at Kasba’s Shitlamandir crossing late at night, hitting a child on the footpath before the rider was flung nearly 50 meters. Both the child and the biker sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a private hospital near Bypass. The accident occurred near a funeral gathering, where the child was waiting with family after dinner when the out-of-control bike struck a road barricade before veering onto the footpath.
Eyewitnesses said the child suffered a neck injury due to the impact, while the biker was thrown next to a generator vehicle. Locals immediately responded and took both victims to the hospital before law enforcement arrived. Police have started an investigation and are checking CCTV footage from the area. Officials are also conducting medical tests to determine if the biker was under the influence of alcohol.
The crash has raised fresh concerns over reckless night-time biking in the city. Several similar incidents have been reported in recent months, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws. Authorities are reviewing safety measures at accident-prone locations, including the placement of road barricades and the need for increased surveillance.
